Manga Madness,Basic Drawing Techniquees and Manga Features (Expressing Emotions), David Okum

-when you draw cartoons they seem to  be made up of 4 different shapes ,circles, squares, rectangles, and triangles.
-shadding is a key component of drawing shading can change the viewers feeling of the drawing.
-hair tells the viewer how the character is like in the inside most of the time
-clothes also tell the viewere how the charater is like, if they have a suit on you can tell they are sleek, but of a shirt and shorts, a more casual charater.
-hand jestures and body language is a huge factoe in telling the story of the  charater . usually in manga you want everything exaturated, if they are talking to someone they should be pointing or jesturing to them as they speak.
-also setting makes the charater feel in place. you would want a warrior on a battle fieal mabey with a wepon , not a meddow with flowers.
-hands and feet are very hard to draw in  a charater , sometimes drawers cover them with boots and gloves , some dont even draw the hand or feet but replace them with stubes to make the charater more "cute"

In this book the author explains that in manga drawing , it is essential  to have  facial expressions in your drawing, so that you get the most that you want out of your drawing. One reason that supports this main idea is that in this chapter  it shows your how the slightest curve of the mouth or stress in the neck makes the expression wat you want.another fact  that supports this main idea is , there is a side note that says “ showing teeth in Japanese culture is  considered impolite and even ugly . historically in japan teeth were often covered with a black paste to make them invisible . it is still considered polite to hide your mouth when you laugh or giggle. Young manga characters often show teeth to express their youthfull ignorance or crassness . show teeth in a smile only to reveal the tactless and careless nature of the character.” Finally , the author gives the example  on how to show different expressions. One example is on how to show the expression “terrified”. The author tells you to drw wide eyes with small pupils and a mouth open wide with top teeth showing. The character appears to be gasping or screaming. Then the author gives a example drawing so you know your drawing it the right way. These ideas are similar to  what I was taught in drawing class. They showed us that when we draw portraits you must angle or shape features depending on what you want the viewer to see.

- some color catch your eye more then other colors.
- first fact about liking colors is memorise that you have for that color,  you may love a certain color for example orange, you probably like this color because you had good situation in you life that has happened many time and there seems to be the color orange involved with this situation
- other colors are sensative to you eye and theycan agravate you.
-pink is a soft color, it makes you less agressive, i have heard in jails that they will paint the rooms pink on some of the walls, that is to have less fightes, you are not able to hit as hard in a pink room
-yellow is an agravating color, parent specialist always warn parents not to paint their childs room yellow, this color is agravating and the baby ends up crying alot more then it needs to.'
-blue and green shades are very relaxing colors, sometimes in paintind people mistake the b lues for sadness, but mostly painters want it to be very relaxing.
-red is an aggresive color, red makes you feel angry and bigger, fights usually happen in a red room,
- if there are 2 lines and one is painted red and one is painted blue, more people would buy at the red painted line
- there was also a study that showed if you  put 2 teams versing eatheother (one red , one white or yellow ect.)and they are the same level, the red will have a bigger likley hood of winning, just because red makes them look bigger and more agressoive to the eyes.

(Mr.Milas)

do you change the way you see certain colors, or does people arounnd you?

why are some colors mixed up so much by certain people?. such as grey or highlighter yellow? especially greens.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4b71rT9fU-I   --->himba tribe

-language plays a big role in seeing colors
-people have tested childrens who are just learning to talk and dont know the words for colors yet and seeing if they can spot the odd color out, they can easily.
- to us who have learned what yellow is , red , blue green, ect. we would of had a much harder time piking the color that is different.
- there was another study done in a tribal community, of about 20 people.they have different words for different colors because of their diverse language.
- these tribal people only had 4 words for the 11 colors that we have
-they put a ring of green dots on a poster and asked them to spot the odd one out. they did easliy.
-to us they would look all the same shade of green. they could do this because light green was in one catigory with light red and light purple, as for a little bit darker shade of green was in a different one of their catagorys of green orange darker red and blue.
- they next put a ring of green dots with an aparent blue dot in it, but blue and green have the same words for them, they couldnt see the odd color , to them they looked all the same.
-the part of your brain that teaches you languge also was seen to be conected to colors and how attracted you are to surtain colors.

1- how do colorblind people see the world and art?
2-even if a person has names for 12 colors , if they live in a very different enviornment will they see it differently?
3- why is that highlighter color always gets so mixed up, some people thinks its yellow some think its green.

-seeing color can also be a genetic thing, passed through you generationd from a resesive allele
-very often males with light blue eyes are color blind. this is because the resesive gene is a sex-linked trait, this means, it usually only shows if  you are male, bu there are some exceptions.
-when i asked some people who were color blind they have a hard time discifering pastel colors, there was a wall that was white and a wall that was pastel blue, he said they were both white.
-also the same shades of colors can be mixed together if you are color blind, such as purple and black,i played chinese chekers and i was green and purple, and my godfather(who i found out is colorblind) had red and black, he would have won but i moved his peices and he could tell which were his and which were mine.
- there are different severities of colorblind people. there are red and green colorblind , light and dark colorblind, and full colorblind
- my godfather had light and dark colorblind and red and green colorblind.i showed him a purple chess peice  and asked him the color, he said it was dark grey! i showed him a red pierce and he said it look about the same color.
-also purple is red and blue  and if their colorblind for red and blue they wouldnt be able to see . my frien had a red shirt on with a purple siuet of a bird, he thought it was a plain red shirt, because he was red blur colorblind, he also only knew it was a red shirt because the tag said (red size,m) to him it was grey.
normal visioned people see wiggley lines. only colorblinded people can see a 5 in the circle

 ------>
<---- normal visioned people can see the 15 in the circle color blineded people cant see it.

-this information was on a colorblind test online(http://www.colour-blindness.com/colour-blindness-tests/ishihara-colour-test-plates/)  ishihara a docter made this test sso it would be easilr to see if your colorblind or not.-

-does your enviornment change you or do you change your enviornment?

1-how does art change you
2-do you change art with you mind
3-if your grow up with art does you mind change
4-what makes you "right brained" or "left brained"

-i know about how some people view art differently. in a museum i saw a picture of an old lay but if you morf it with your mind it turned into a young lady.some people who are "right brained" are very artistic and math and science are much harder for them to figure out. if someone is left brained they are very logical and mathmatical .the brain has memeory and other parts that change you as you grow. there are different memorys that might change if you become mopre arrtistic or not.
