  • mood or an emotional state- feelings of low self-worth or guilt
  • symptoms include:
    • sadness
    • loss of appetite
    • low self-esteem
    • insomnia
  • alternating states of mania and depression is usually bipolar disorder
  • caused by many things including not enough neurotransmitters (serotonin & norepinephrine in the brain)
  • medications called antidepressants like Cymbalta and Prozac or Celexa help to accumulate neurotransmitters to elevate a persons mood.
  • electroconvulsive therapy- when you send an electrical wave through a persons head
  • two major treatments are psychotherapy (aims to change the way the person thinks) and medications (balance out the chemicals in your body to regulate your mood)

  1. hi Joanna- This post made me realize that depression is a very serious state of mood and that most people go through it during their life. . It made me realize this because your information was very accurate and valuable. it thought me a lot about how it can be treated and may shape people in different ways. ok nice job. bye.

  2. I completely agree with yoyr first two bullet points that are talking about symptoms of being sad, and it gives a definition a what it means to be depressed, or a brief definition. I agree with this because when I am feeling down or depressed, i also encounter those symptoms.

  3. You made some really good points here like the symptoms about depression that people may or may not notice about a person who is suffering from depression. I agree with them because someone in my family suffered from depression so I have a personal connection to your project.
